{"id":5450,"date":"2020-07-07T10:27:54","date_gmt":"2020-07-07T08:27:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diagma.com\/?p=5450"},"modified":"2021-04-14T14:18:13","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T12:18:13","slug":"what-are-some-advantages-and-challenges-when-adopting-just-in-time-jit-principles-into-a-globalised-supply-chain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diagma.com\/en\/what-are-some-advantages-and-challenges-when-adopting-just-in-time-jit-principles-into-a-globalised-supply-chain\/","title":{"rendered":"What are some advantages and challenges when adopting Just in Time (JIT) principles into a globalised supply chain?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"q-text\">\n<p class=\"q-text qu-display--block\">I know <strong>no global supply chain working on a JIT<\/strong> principle, i.e. <strong>on synchronized operations at all levels <\/strong>of the supply chain. <strong>Even inside a company,<\/strong> total synchronization, a flow where there is no significant stock between operations, is <strong>hard to come by<\/strong>. It is inherent in <strong>fast moving production lines<\/strong> like packaging lines. In breweries a packaging line can output <strong>100 000 bottles per hour<\/strong>, palletized and shipped. Same thing with pet food. When operations become more complex like in job shop operations where products will be manufactured through various operations, synchronization will become <strong>more difficult<\/strong>. Very often <strong>cycle time<\/strong> (lead-time between start and finish of the product) will take <strong>100 times the sum of operating times<\/strong> (time when a manufacturing operation takes place).<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Green wave manufacturing project<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"q-text qu-display--block\">To address the challenge I am currently working on a project called <strong>green wave manufacturing.<\/strong> It requires some thinking but <strong>results are impressive<\/strong>. For example in manufacturing perfume bottles we have brought done the manufacturing cycle time from <strong>6 months to 2 days<\/strong>. Same thing in the steel industry manufacturing coils, or in the manufacturing of <strong>jet engines<\/strong> or in the <strong>apparel<\/strong> industry or <strong>electronic chip<\/strong> manufacturing. It is a very powerful tool.
